A place where horses can be free and live in herd until the last sunset
The SANTUARIO EQUINO VILLA SERRANA is a natural refuge for horses and native animals, located in Villa Serrana, Lavalleja, Uruguay.
We are fortunate to be able to use a 100 hectare field on the Uruguayan sierras, between ravines, streams, baths and pastures with natural shelters.
About us
We are Libre & Gege, a couple dedicated to rescuing and caring for animals, we have been living for the past 7 years in a "tapera" surrounded by animals, nature and peace.
When Libre Lopez was 6 years old, his parents gave him a petiso called Tamboril and there his passion for horses began. Working hard and learning different ways to care for them, train them slowly and with great respect, he understood that horses are incredibly intelligent beings, highly sensitive, curious, playful and always ready to give themselves 100%.
Geraldine Arán at 5 years old already knew that her passion was animals, at that age she rescued animals with her twin sister on the street. Although she studied Design and Fashion between Montevideo and Barcelona, the animals have always been part of her life and a dream to dedicate herself to them.
Professional experience
Libre Lopes has 34 years of experience with horses.
He has trained them and helped correct behavioral errors,
in addition to teaching their "owners" to communicate with each other:
• At the age of 15 he did his first course in non violent training, with Santiago Terra, in Uruguay.
• Worked in Return to Freedom, California, United States.
• Worked at Magali Farms, race horse training center, California, United States.
• Non violent training course with Caroline Wolffer (Switzerland) held in Uruguay.
• Equine ethology course with Patricio Muñoz Barrios (Chile) held at SEVS, Uruguay.
• He studied equine podiatry techniques, barefoot trimming,
stretching techniques, intensive care for horses with serious injuries, as well as the methodologies of Monty Roberts, John Lyons and Pat Parelli, all from United States.
Congratulations! I wish you a long life so that many animals can fall into your hands and thus live the life they deserve with the love they deserve.

I always say this when looking at you two, you are one of those souls that one crosses and never forgets, for many reasons but the one that I emphasize the most: the freedom with which you live.
